Our next Challenge Owner is Caire Health AI GmbH. In the interview, Daniel Angloher will give us insights into their challenge “Camera based Driver Health Assessment”.
How was this challenge inspired?
The General Safety Regulation (EU) 2019/2144 introduces new mandatory vehicle safety features, including Driver Drowsiness and Attention Warning and Advanced Driver Distraction Warning (together these form the “Driver Monitoring System” family). Caire offers vital sign extraction from a Video of the Face using RPPG-AI Models, porting this medtech technology to the car can have a big impact in detecting dangerous episodes and reducing accidents.
Why is this topic so important?
Roughly 30-35 % of all fatal accidents can be traced to lacking fitness to drive, including health episodes, tiredness and impairment. These incidents can be detected through physiological measurements. Through the analysis of extracted Pulse Wave Information better risk assessment can save lifes.
Why should one take part in the Healthcare Hackathon Bayern – Erlangen 2025?
Its a great opportunity to get a hands on experience in medical software development. A two day crash course to create a value proposition for a customer, design a good UserExperience, and bring together medical understanding of heart health with deep learning to create a functional proto type that can save lives.
What’s the ideal scenario for what happens with your challenge after the Hackathon?
We are interested in creating a functional stand alone solution that can find direct application in a real automotive setting. We would love to continue cooperating with talented participants and offer paid opportunities to continue working on this vision.
