RECAP: Healthcare Hackathon Bayern – Erlangen 2025 

Erlangen turned into a buzzing ideas laboratory from 6 to 8 November as more than 170 participants gathered for the Healthcare Hackathon Bayern – Erlangen 2025, hosted and organized by Medical Valley EMN e. V. IT experts, clinicians, nurses, students, founders and digital enthusiasts came together with a shared mission: shaping solutions for the future of healthcare.  

This year placed a special spotlight on Automotive Health, exploring how vehicles could become active health companions. Alongside this theme, the hackathon featured challenges on AI-driven data exploration, secure access to medical devices and camera-based health monitoring. The four challenge tracks demonstrated how broad and bold innovation in healthcare can be: 

• AWS – Health Chat: Making complex medical data searchable and understandable through conversational AI.
  • Siemens Healthineers – Smart Authentication: Developing secure, personalized access management for medical devices.
  • Caire Health AI – Driver Health Assessment: Detecting cardiac irregularities through in-car camera systems.
  • TH Nürnberg – Drive Healthy: Envisioning cars as health platforms with coaching tools, emergency detection and smart interfaces. 

After two intense days of prototyping, the teams pitched their solutions to a distinguished jury. The winners impressed with clarity, creativity and impact: 1st place SugarBeaters (AWS), 2nd place HeartGuardians (AWS) and 3rd place TapID (Siemens Healthineers).
