Thaumatec Tech Group is the newest member of the Medical Valley ecosystem. We are pleased to welcome the company to our network. Thaumatec specializes in developing Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions.
Barend Smet, President of the Management Board, gives us some insights in this interview.
In a nutshell: What is thaumatec’s mission and what are your activity fields?
The THAUMATEC TECH GROUP designs cutting-edge HealthTech software solutions that harness the power of the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence. It is our mission to improve people’s health, wellbeing, and quality of life by unleashing the potential of the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence.
We maximize our added value by establishing long-term partnerships with our customers, being at the forefront of new technological developments, creating a working environment where every employee can excel with their talents, and promoting innovation together with leading universities and society.
Our team of currently almost 70 Engineers supports a diverse portfolio that includes startups, SMEs, and corporate clients across Europe, the USA, and beyond. Each collaboration is tailored to meet the client’s needs and can range from the provision of one consulting expert to a dedicated 20+ member team of engineers, quality specialists, and project managers.
The experience from our innovative projects using the standards and certificates ISO 9001:2015, ISO 27001:2017 and ISO 13485:2016 allow professional, timely and cost-effective project implementation.
The ignition: Was there a particular moment that started the idea and history of thaumatec?
We launched Thaumatec in 2014 as an embedded software development company. Over the years we further specialized in building solutions for our customers in a broad range of industries.
The problems in the healthcare system, the interesting and fast high-tech evolution in medicine, and as well the Covid pandemia challenges, encouraged us to enhance our participation in development of HealthTech solutions. Therefore we narrowed the focus in 2020 to projects that promote physical, mental, social, and environmental health.
And that’s when it dawned on us that we should focus our energy and technical skills on improving people’s health, wellbeing and quality of life.
Your personal motivation: What is it that makes you so passionate about what you do?
After a close family member of mine was diagnosed with MS and Parkinson’s at a young age, it became clear that, besides medicine, technology could have an incredible impact on improving and maintaining quality of life.
Diseases that could only be treated with medicine and had bleak prospects of survival just 15 years ago, are now being successfully battled via technology.
Your vision: Where do you see yourself in 10 years from now?
My vision is to be recognized as a leading HealthTech software house, using the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to build solutions for businesses that help improve people’s health at its broadest , from prevention to cure and rehabilitation.
