The Hospiz-Akademie Bamberg is a nonprofit institution that aims to maintain public awareness of the topics dying, death, mourning, and palliative care – provided by a network of various professions (medicine, care, psychology, pastoral care …) – by offering seminars and events, and thereby effectively promoting the idea of hospices. Thus, the institution regards itself as an education and training center for full-time as well as voluntary workers engaged in hospice work and the pastoral care of dying as well as mourning people and their family systems. Furthermore, we want to provide a place of appreciation where it is possible to uphold the dignity of human life until the last moment, and where people from different generations get the chance to search for a liveable, intense and successful life together. It is very important to us to develop and hold high quality seminars with capable speakers. Art and culture occupy a central position among our offers. The Hospiz-Akademie Bamberg is part of four state-subsidized academies in Bavaria, and also considers its work as a social responsibility. We therefore offer discounted courses and free events, too.
Palliative care and hospice work focus on the person as a whole, and are thus designed to allow many professions to efficiently work together in the network for the patients’ and their family systems’ well-being: Full-time and voluntary workers, hospice associations, doctors, caregivers, social workers, pastors… Many of our seminar offers are therefore advertised interdisciplinarily, and aim at a joint cross-discipline experiential learning. We would like to express our special thanks to the Bavarian State Ministry of Health and Care as well as the Paula Kubitscheck-Vogel Foundation for their support.
